About the project
H81 is a two-storey residential building in Buchenberg, a forest-rich climatic spa town in the Allgäu Alps — a quiet example of what regional timber construction does best.
The building is erected in glue-free solid-wood construction, its walls joined mechanically rather than with adhesives, using wood from the surrounding region. It was built by Forster, a family-run carpentry and timber construction workshop from neighbouring Wiggensbach whose guiding motto is 'wood is life'.
Completed in 2024, H81 shows that carbon-storing construction needs no flagship scale: everyday village housing, built from the forests around it, keeping that carbon locked in for generations.
