Pünt housing estate

About the project

Pünt replaces a 1968 cooperative housing estate in Egg, Zurich, with seven new timber buildings offering 90 affordable apartments, care facilities and flexible community rooms — the winning design of a 2020 architectural competition.

Prefabricated timber elements rise up to six storeys, with floors of stacked solid timber and façades of untreated wood. The structure is built entirely with Swiss timber, and the project is certified to SNBS Gold, Switzerland's highest sustainability standard for buildings.

Existing tenants were rehoused within the cooperative during construction. Completed in stages until 2027, Pünt shows how post-war housing can be renewed as a long-term carbon sink, certified under the Rainbow Standard.
