About the project

Küttigen's new kindergarten and daycare centre at the Stock school campus is a building children can literally understand: a two-storey solid-timber house without metal fasteners, glue or chemical materials.

The wood — including moon-phase-felled timber — comes from the municipality's own forest, processed by a local timber builder as the winning team of an open competition. Even the floor system uses beech wood instead of cement screed, and the timber remains visible inside and out.

Opened in 2025 with a climbing tower and lookout that make the architecture part of the playground, the building teaches sustainability by example — a public carbon store, certified under the Rainbow Standard.
