About the project
Timber One is a boarding house with 53 apartments in Dorfen, Bavaria — erected in just 18 weeks from serial timber modules, each fully prefabricated down to furniture and fittings in a production hall directly on site.
The building stands on the grounds of the former Meindl brickworks, a brownfield being transformed into 'Timber Town', a planned zero-emission timber quarter. Built to plus-energy standard, it operates fully digitally with contactless check-in.
Opened in 2024 by Bavaria's building minister after a groundbreaking attended by Germany's federal housing minister, Timber One is a nationally watched showcase of serial timber construction — hospitality infrastructure as a long-term carbon sink, certified under the Rainbow Standard.
