The Edison with 32 storeys
With 25 storeys and 86.6 metres, the Ascent Tower was the world's tallest timber hybrid when it opened. Now “The Edison” is to be built in East Town on the Milwaukee River. Originally planned by Michael Green Architecture as a 15-storey residential building, it has since grown to 32 storeys. The developer is The Neutral Project. Plans include luxury apartments as well as a café, gym, spa, sky lounge and community garden, with completion scheduled for 2026.
An even taller scheme
In July 2024, The Neutral Project also announced a mass timber project on the Marcus Center car park that could become the world's tallest timber building. The mixed-use buildings are to be built in several phases, with more than USD 700 million of investment, up to 750 homes, office and retail space, 300 hotel rooms and 1,100 parking spaces. The city granted the developers a one-year exclusive negotiating right. Mayor Cavalier Johnson links the project to the goal of growing the city's population to one million.

How Timber Carbon sees it
Timber high-rises show how much timber a single building can hold. Timber Carbon, launched in 2026 as a spin-off of Timber Finance, quantifies, certifies and monetises the carbon removed in mass timber buildings as carbon removal credits on the voluntary carbon market. Our portfolio shows further examples, and Popular Science also covers the Marcus Center plans.
