An industry with negative emissions
Timber absorbs CO₂ in the forest, keeps it out of the atmosphere in buildings for the long term and replaces emission-intensive materials such as concrete and steel. According to the article, this makes the timber construction chain the only listed industry whose products deliver negative emissions. With the building sector responsible for around 40 percent of global CO₂ emissions and likely to face tighter regulation, Fedrizzi sees timber construction as a driver of decarbonisation for portfolios and real estate.
Index, basket and carbon solutions
The article presents the products Timber Finance has launched as a pioneer of “timber investments 2.0”: the Timber Finance Carbon Capture & Storage Index of 23 listed companies along the timber construction chain, the Timber Finance Forest-based Construction Basket listed on SIX and the Building Decarbonization Strategy with 40 stocks. Through its carbon solutions, real estate investors can be compensated for their climate performance with carbon removal credits, either for offsetting or for insetting in their own carbon balance.
Timber construction is on the verge of a growth spurt internationally.
How Timber Carbon sees it
Timber Carbon, launched in 2026 as a spin-off of Timber Finance, quantifies, certifies and monetises the carbon removed in mass timber buildings as carbon removal credits on the voluntary carbon market. Our Buy credits page shows the options for companies.
