About the project
StiBL adds a timber-built commercial building to Kempten's Stiftsbleiche district — a site whose name recalls the 18th-century bleaching grounds of the prince-abbey's linen trade, and which today is an ordinary commercial zone.
The building is erected in solid timber construction with hollow-box floor elements, using wood from German forests — a deliberate counterpoint to the conventional steel and concrete sheds around it, delivered by the Allgäu timber specialists Forster and Epp.
Completed in 2025, StiBL brings warmth and stored forest carbon to a district that once processed another renewable resource — proof that even workaday commercial space can be built from wood.
