Timber Town residences

About the project

This affordable housing project brings social residential space to Timber Town, the zero-emission timber quarter emerging on Dorfen's former brickworks site, where around 700 homes are planned on remediated industrial land.

The apartments are assembled from serially prefabricated solid-wood modules — around eleven cubic metres of spruce per module — produced in the factory directly on the site and stackable to several storeys, built to the KfW Efficiency House 40 standard.

Completed in 2025, the project addresses one of housing policy's hardest questions: how to build genuinely affordable homes without compromising on climate. Its answer is serial timber construction — social housing as a long-term carbon sink, certified under the Rainbow Standard.
