Schellnhuber, founding director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and since 2023 head of IIASA in Laxenburg, sees building with timber as one of the few ways to hold atmospheric carbon for decades. On forests he argues for active management rather than protection alone: planting climate-resilient species and reforesting degraded land. This link between forest, building and carbon balance is exactly what Timber Carbon quantifies and turns into tradable credits.
