About the project

KAPO, an Austrian window and door maker in its fourth family generation, is building its new headquarters at the Ökopark Hartberg — on a former construction-waste landfill, meaning no additional land is sealed.

Two production halls in timber truss construction achieve free spans of 30 metres, joined by a cross-laminated timber office building with showroom and training centre; every building on the site is wood, using timber from Tirol. The plant runs largely energy-autonomous on photovoltaics, a biomass plant fired with its own wood waste, and machine heat recovery.

An EMAS-certified brownfield revitalisation described locally as unique in Austria — industrial production as a long-term carbon sink, certified under the Rainbow Standard.
